WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2013, OWEC is dedicated to advancing equity for women and girls in Oregon. Our membership is primarily organizations serving women and girls, as well as individuals dedicated to advancing gender equity.
OWEC’s vision is for Oregon to become a place where women and girls have social, economic, and political equity. Our mission is to use research, advocacy, and collective action to advance equitable services and policies that promote gender equality.
In our vision, mission, and values statements we refer to “all women and girls.” We use this phrase intentionally as OWEC is committed to supporting ALL people who self-identify as women and girls. We recognize much stratification exists in a group this large and employ an intersectional framework that prioritize the experiences of women of color, low-income women, and other women who share marginalized identities.
Inspire organizations serving women and girls to engage in systems change work to benefit their constituencies
Advocate for specific public policies that advance gender equity
Strengthen connections between organizations advocating for the needs of women and girls in Oregon through networking and convening
Encourage innovative and collaborative efforts to address gender disparities
There is no other statewide coalition focusing on advancing gender equity in Oregon. OWEC is growing in numbers and influence. We seek more members who share our values and want to contribute to shaping our growing coalition and increasing our effectiveness in advocating for equitable policies. We are stronger together!
